The inhabited island of the group, shaped like two mountains joined by a sand isthmus, and the only place in the archipelago with a town.

Phi Phi Don is two limestone masses connected by a low sandbar with a village on it. Tonsai Bay on the south side is the ferry port and the nightlife, Loh Dalum on the north side is the swimming beach, and the long northeast coast is where the quiet anchorages are.

For a yacht the interesting part of the island is the northeast. Loh Bagao and Laem Tong are wide sand bays with resorts behind them and enough room to swing, and they are far enough from town that the noise stays in town.

The village itself is worth one evening. It was destroyed in the 2004 tsunami and rebuilt, and the memorial and evacuation routes on every corner are part of the place.
