Chalong is a wide open bay on the south of Phuket with a long pier and no berths. Yachts anchor off. It matters to a charterer for one reason: this is where a yacht clears in and out of Thailand, and where the harbour master signs the departure paperwork that a charter yacht is required to carry.

For a day charter to the Racha islands or to Phi Phi, Chalong is also the shortest departure point on the island, which is why almost the entire day-boat fleet leaves from here.

For an overnight charter it is rarely the boarding point, because the anchorage is exposed and a tender transfer with luggage in an afternoon chop is a poor first hour of a holiday.

Operators that board here

  • 5 Star Marine

A large Chalong day fleet of speedboats and catamarans, and the operator that publishes the clearest public breakdown of Thai national park fees.

  • Boat Trip Thailand

A private day-charter operator that publishes what is and is not included in a Phuket day charter in plain language, which is unusual in a segment built on headline prices.

  • Private Yacht Phuket

The bridge between the day market and the overnight one: private day charters with crew, plus short overnight itineraries, priced in baht from around 20,000 for a day.
