A farmed and fished island of about 4,000 people in the middle of the bay, with anchorages on both coasts so it stays usable when the monsoon turns.

Koh Yao Noi lies between Phuket and Krabi in the middle of Phang Nga Bay, and it is the quietest thing in the middle of the busiest cruising ground in the Andaman Sea. Rubber, rice and fishing, a handful of small resorts, no nightlife.

For a charter it does two jobs. It is a good last night before a morning run back to the marina, because it is close in and the anchorages are calm. And it has usable holding on both sides of the island, which is what makes it one of the few anchorages that still works in the southwest monsoon.

The neighbouring Koh Yao Yai is larger, less developed and has fewer sheltered corners, so most itineraries take the smaller island.
